Aloha all!

And, yes, I really did search first. I read the sticky thread entitled "where to download..." I went to the Wiki page on the subject.

And, after a few days of intermittent searching, the only links I can find that actually seem to have the needed files are the two on this page:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerPCDownloads

Problem is, both links are giving me DL speeds of under 1 KB/sec with estimated DL times of over 5 days. Even though I am actually that patient, experience tells me that it isn't going to work.

Since the file exists, surely it's somewhere accessible, yes? Anyone have a link to a site that actually will get me up and running in less than a week? Or, even more low-tech, a copy of a CD that they'd be willing to send me?

I've got a small fleet of old G3 iMacs that I want to get up and running and donate to a worthy cause.

Mahalo!
Tom

Hi HaaiianHippie.

Here's a link.

http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ports/releases/9.04/release/

If you scroll almost to the bottom of the page, you can get the bit torrent download for power pc.

Should be faster.

You could try this link for a mini.iso:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD

I can verify that the 32-bit PowerPC Ubuntu 9.04 minimal CD at least boots on a 400 MHz iMac G3.
(I just finished backing up data prior to trying a fresh install later this week.)

I don't yet know if it's like the Debian "business card" Installer, where you choose a [preferably local] mirror location to download all the packages during installation.

Mahalo, hansdown!

The link you suggested actually didn't work, but the act of pausing the 5-day download to try it somehow got the server's attention, and my initial download finished in under an hour.

And, of course, the installation failed to go smoothly. But that's a subject for a new thread, posted only after due diligence is done researching the issue!

Glad the download got done, and hope your install is pleasant HaaiianHippie.

Canonical will send you a free disk, if you have any trouble.

Some help for your install.
