Reposting from Kwentuhan: Fundraising for Ondoy Victims
Hello po, mga ka-ubuntu. Si Illustria po ito, Pinoy din, pero living on safe ground and very concerned about how things are going back home.
Nagdadasal po ako para sa inyong lahat. However, I want to do more to help. Here's the thing: some of our fellow ubunteros might have lost their computers, CPU's, etc. in the storm. Wouldn't it be great if we could find a way to raise money for them? Say, a website na may PayPal button and Google Ads or something, tapos i-remit nalang natin so that people back home can buy themselves new things?
I know na si Samhain13's CPU is completely gone, and he's a multimedia artist - kabuhayan nya yun. I know there are many other people back home who need this kind of help. Would any of you have ideas?
Sorry if you guys are seeing this for the 2nd time on the boards. I'm just in need of a lot of ideas, and it would be great if we could all pitch in to help those who were not as fortunate to have a lot of things safe from the storm.

>>HI Loell. Actually, this IS his girlfriend. I'm also on the forums.
Food and clothing are needed, indeed. I'm going to be sending some, and we can donate, as an Ubuntu group, to the Red Cross (among other institutions). However, my concern is that Arielle's livelihood is based on computer work, and he lost a lot of work when he lost his CPU.
That's something concrete that I can go by when I try to solicit funds over here - that someone has lost a lot both in the short and long term. And because Ubuntu people are associated with computers, those who may need to donate money can make the association with them fairly quickly.
I'm not saying we should not donate food and clothing. Yes, I agree and recognize that both are important. But I'm also hoping to donate more than just food and clothing, because there are things needed in the long run (i.e. computers, so that one's job can still be done even when the flood waters have receded). I don't think a CPU (and other computer things) should be mutually exclusive from donating food and clothing, as well as money, which our country needs right now.
Thank you for info on how to donate. However, I don't live in the Philippines, and it can be difficult for me. Are there other Ubunteros who are outside the country but need international lines for donations? The Red Cross Philippine Chapter, Ayala Foundation, and Jesuit Foundation have opened their lines for money to get into the Philippines

Yes! This is what I was driving at. Good idea!
And yes, if there are other ubunteros who lost computers, we can help them, too. Gagawa kami dito ng website so that people can send money through paypal. every cent, every dollar counts!

good idea, alam naman natin na kahit ibang ubuntu users ay nabalitaan rin ngayun ang nangyari sa pinas and this would be a good advantage to ask some help using this forum.
please inform me if the site is done :)

maybe we could specify what needs to be done para maging organized (like who will setup the website, who will setup the account)... pero ask muna kung sino mag volunteer para gawin yun...

Hi!
Please contact me through: 0929-3026966
SALAMATS!!!

Hello, once again everyone.
It's been quite a long time since I last posted something here.
Yes. Such event did affect everyone seriously, and we now are in our way to recover. We were alright, but friends of mine, students of ours and even relatives had been affected badly down in Cainta. We are just ever so thankful to God that none of them were in a severe state.
Days after Ondoy, a friend of mine from Pasig, they had to dig their house back from an awful-smelling mud of a hip-high in order for them to recover at least some of their items. Still, we thankful that all of them are fine and in one fine piece.
God Bless us all...
