I thought this would be cool since I haven't seen anyone do it.

Why?

It's much better just to download Ubuntu and burn it yourself, or just use Shipit.

One of the reasons that made me use Ubuntu is that I'm not annoyed by all this activation stuff, I'm free to do anything I want with it, adding a product key to Ubuntu would be a HUGE downgrade.

I don't think that Ubuntu should have a product key. I just made this for fun. Like a mockup of what Ubuntu product activation could have looked like.

Alright, then. :)

But maybe you could do a cover for the CD that comes in ShipIt, something that is actually used.

If you a take a second look at it and magnify it by x10, you'll see it says "*not actually required". ;)

How about you change the wording:

IMPORTANT: Ubuntu Product Activation is not needed. This product does not use any technological measures for copy protection. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO USE THIS PRODUCT IMMEDIATELY AND FOR NO CHARGE. No End-User License Agreement (EULA) will be detailed throughout your launch and use of Ubuntu (unless you choose to activate proprietary software). To spread Ubuntu, just make a copy of this CD and pass it on to a friend. By using this product, you are choosing freedom.

well i agree that a product key wouldn't be a good idea, these stickers would give the distro a more official feel then just the cheap cd's you can buy from conical. Plus they look cool

i believe a product key would be cool to have for online registering because it could show that the original owner is sharing his disk and promoting ubuntu.
