I gave Ubuntu a try and ordered Inspiron Mini 10v with the OS for my mom and sister who are not tech savvy. I finished the initial setup and get them connected to the wireless network but after that I can't get them to work AT ALL. Every time I turn on the laptop, it freezes up in a few minute before I get to do anything or if I get lucky and get an application running, it either freezes up or crash before the application completes the process. Sometimes everything disappear from the screen before I do anything. I bought two of them and they both have the same problems. Is the OS not compatible with the particular machine? It seems that the other people had the same problems and reinstalling the OS doesn't seem to fix the problem according to the ones who tried the method already.

I just got a Dell Mini 10v, and I installed Ubuntu 9.04 netbook remix (http://www.ubuntu.com/GetUbuntu/download-netbook). I don't have any problems, so it may be the version dell is shipping (8.04 I think). Upgrading to a more recent version of Ubuntu could be a solution ...

I would have to agree with Edouardo, I have had mine for about a month and it has been working flawlessly. I would also suggest upgrading to 9.04.

Hi Analyst475, when did you get the system? Suggest to go online update first. A lot update/improvement on the 8.04 OS.

I don't think what you suggest is possible, since according to the original post, the system freezes almost right after it boots. It seems to be a hardware problem, been reported earlier.

The link seems for Mini 10 which is Menlow and Poulsbo chip. Here is Mini 10v which should be a normal Intel 945 chip. May have different problem.

Analyst475, if the update doesn't work, could you send out the dmesg log file with single mode?
