I have a copy of this Lineage 2 game client on an external drive. so i copied the folder over to my ubuntu desktop. I then installed wine from synaptic package manager. After i was sure that Wine was installed, I opened up terminal. At the prompt i typed in

mopimpin@pnut:~$ wine /home/mopimpin/Desktop/L2-c3/L2_C3_Installer/setup.exe

and it seem to begin to install the game. But during the setup it froze, leaving me having to Xkill that attempt at installation. I then retried using the same command and every single time there after, I got errors.

Am i doing something wrong?

I want to make the complete switch from winblowz to Ubuntu Breezy Badger but it has to be able to play my games.

Please help me anyone.

I too want to play L2, but I haven't found any information, and the wine page said the installer was incompatible at the moment :-k

Have a look here it may help you:

http://doc.gwos.org/index.php/Wine

[EDIT:] Wine Tools, is great for easily installing a lot of windoze fonts, installer files & other extras. Don't install internet explorer, if you want to run DVDshrink, IE does evil things to DVDshrinks display!!

I don't think it's possible due to the fact in L2 there's alot of anti-bots/cheat codes which prevents the game to run on wine/cedega (so I've heard).

there has to be away to play games in this os. there must be someone who wanted to play this game in this os and figured it out. heres what i have found out so far.

I had installed my nvidia glx incorrectly, but i know have this sorted out. so i tried again at installing lineage 2 in ubuntu 5.10 breezy badger using wine. this time i copied the games folder to desktop again and typed

mopimpin@pnut~$wine /home/mopimpin/Desktop/l2-c3/L2_C3_Installer/setup.exe

wine executed installshield wizard and l2 began setup. during its setup it just locks up. i end up having to xkill it.

what am i doing wrong?

Not all games or software, designed for windoze can be played under linux & wine, cedega, crossoveroffice.

That is unfortunately the bottom line.

You most likely are doing nothing wrong, & have hit that wall.

Sorry.
