Hi. I'm running a DVI to HDMI cable from my computer to my stereo receiver just for video (I have an optical cable for audio). It runs great until I start to play a recording from myth. As soon as the recording starts a background buzz come on. The background buzz then continues even if I leave the recording. It's not from the audio cable as it remains when I unplug the audio cable, but it ends as soon as I unplug the DVI cable from the computer.

Do I need to somehow ground the DVI cable? Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hi,

What happens if you stop mythtv but leave the PC running?

It could be a problem grounding problem. Try running a cable (anything will do) from the case of the PC to the case of the receiver.

Which receiver do you have? If you are using the HDMI input on the receiver for video, then won't it expect the audio to come over HDMI input and not the optical input? Can you tell your receiver to receive video from HDMI and audio from Optical? Why don't you just connect the HDMI directly to the TV? These questions probably don't help you very much... But I just got curious about your setup. :-\"

ian - If I exit mythtv it stops the buzz (mostly). If I leave or pause the recording and turn my receiver off then on it stops the buzz (completely) until I restart the recording. I tried running a grounding wire from case to case, but it didn't work.

larsolav - I have an Onkyo receiver that allows me to choose the video and audio source independently. It works greater for everything else. I have the hdmi into the receiver so that I can change sources. It would probably work to plug the hdmi directly into the tv, but it would require adjusting settings on both the tv and the receiver which is one more step every time.

Thanks.
