View Full Version : Steam giveing me guff on Half Life: op for

The game works all right if I use my old install disks. I wanted to use the steam verison because of multiplayer issues and the cleaner interface. Regular Half Life works just ducky, but op for and blue shift does not.

When I try to load up a single player game it loads up to the point of connecting to the server at the end of the load process and it locks up. I ran steam via the terminal and got this:

I figured it might be some bizarre network problem so I made sure my Steam ports were forwarded correctly, And I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the entire HL1 suite via steam with no success. Any ideas?

ok I got the steam version of Blue Shift to work ok, the HUD is orange instead of blue but I can deal. Still having the same issue with op for

I'm getting this same problem it seems to be a regression in wine for any of the "gold source" games causing them to crash like 9/10 times. I first saw in ver 1.1.30.

I'm seeing something like this too with Half-Life and Opposing Force. After the menu appears, if I hover over the items, it makes the clicking sound as it should but when I actually click one, the game freezes and the clicking sound keeps repeating. I've just tried all the Wine version from 1.1.25 all the way through to 1.1.32 and none of them work but the game was working just fine for me a few months ago. I can't remember exactly which version I was using but it must have been one of those. I reckon something else like a kernel upgrade has killed it but I can't test that out so easily. I'm on Gentoo btw but I haven't seen many other reports of this.
