View Full Version : [ubuntu] can i install dell-reinstall in my dell laptop?

i am using dell inspiron 1545 with vista home provided by dell,
and ubuntu.
can i install ubuntu-9.04-dell-reinstall.iso in my laptop?
i think that it is provided by dell so it will be more compatible with dell machine.

You probably can, however, I think Dell's installer simply wipes the hdd not letting you set up a dual boot, which is probably what you want. Besides, according to Dell's wiki, the only difference between Ubuntu proper and Dell's version is some proprietary software like flash and codecs. No compatibility improvements are mentioned.

Yes, something like that. I've never actually used Dell's isos, but it looks like Dell's 9.04 has an interactive reinstallation mode, which allows setting up partitions. You'll probably be able to resize too, just like with Ubuntu proper.
