I have a mini 9 with Ubuntu. The left and right buttons on touch pad on the palm rest get stuck and I cannot do anything.

At first, I thought it was a hardware issue. I got a new palm rest and installed it. The problem started again. I am determined to get to the root of this problem, I reinstalled the operating system and, as expected, it didn't help.

Whenever I do something, it is like one of the mouse buttons is being held down and you cannot do anything. I cannot shut my mini down. I have to hold down the power button to do that.

When this occurs, I cannot use an external mouse and my mini is useless.

What can I do about the palm rest/touch pad button isses? Help, please!

Do the buttons physically get stuck?

If so, this is a hardware issue; I have never had any such issues with my Mini 9.

How did you install a new palm rest (and what is the palm rest)?

I have two mini 9 netbooks with 9.04 installed and have never suffered from this problem either. Have to say it sounds like a hardware issue, rather than a software one - have you tried removing the buttons and cleaning underneath? If not, it may be a warranty job.

I did something I only wanted to do as a last resort: I removed the keyboard and I have it soaking in distilled water. So much crud came out and the keys do not feel stiff. This may be the issue. I will reinstall it in a few days and hopefully, that worked.

I have a mini 9 with Ubuntu 8.10, and don't have a problem like this.
