I have a mixed network (Ubuntu, Redhat, Freebsd, Windows) with approx 500 users.
I need to monitor and analyse network traffic going to the internet because I see that our usage is getting higher every month.
The border gateway runs FreeBSD.
My idea is to send logs or packet data from that gateway to a server running ubuntu for in depth analysis and probably graphing and display on a web page.
I am currently looking at Argus and MRTG but am having trouble figuring out where to start on the whole project.
It would be great if anyone here had done similar things and could offer any advice of a general nature or point me at a good howto or whatever. I'll continue to trawl Google in the meantime of course.
