Authentication Button Not Working

My password says "0 Days until password expires" but still lets me log on. (BTW: it went from 6 days to 0 days overnight)
When I try to change it I get the standard pop asking me to Authenticate. When I type in the password and push the "Authenticate" button the app freezes never to come back to life. I also notice the same thing happens every time the Authenticate panel comes up for anything.

I'm completely at a loss. Anyone have any ideas?

Try to boot in recovery mode and reset your password:

Sorry, no joy.
I get the following message:
Module is unknown
password unchanged

Any idea what module and what I need to do to fix it?
