Is there any incentive for NOT using my real name when installing Ubuntu? I understand that my username and computer name may be accessible to people over a network, but I wasn't sure if others would have access to the name I used when installing. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your help.Use whatever name you want for installing and if you want a different name associated with your account just create a new account with the new name. Just beware that programs will pick up the name from Gnome and KDE settings. For example if you upload via bzr then it will insert the account name automatically. So I can see situations where your account name might leak unintentionally in a code submission or document or email header.

Thanks, I think that is all I needed to know.

It's some sort of a passport - seeing it's cover doesn't reveal your real name, birth of date, etc.!
Indeed, why would you be so scared about this ? :)
