Windows Vista has screwed up my admin account. The correct password all of the sudden decided to quit working and I was wondering if there is some ubuntu program that can hack into Vista and get my password.

Do you mean to recover your windoze p/word ?

If so, yes it can be done. I'm sure the info is out there, but I'd rather you pop me an e-mail before I give the instructions.

A pleasure to try to help.

Welcome to Ubuntu. Actually, I still have vista sat on my computer - not sure when i last used it. But, the two will live happily side by side - My music files are still on my vista partion - RythmBox has no problems accessing them, nor me accessing my disk images for the likes of XP / vista installs etc.

If you want to keep access to your windoze stuff (I guess photo-shop elements would be the only thing - but I'm getting used to the *nix flavours), then you can't go far wrong with the set of instructions from here ....

http://apcmag.com/howto_search.htm?q=Keyword&catid=198

But, do, take time to do the manual resizing of the partition, else you'll end up in this thread

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1215773&highlight=resize+minimum+ubuntu

It's called the dreaded 2.3GB thread - there are many of them - And, no, we don't snigger - but please have a read of it before u do a dual install - will save headaches later.......

I speak from experience :lolflag:

I am aware that there was likely a pm/email exchanged, but since other people might use the search function, here's the easiest way:

Get Ophcrack (http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/), burn it, run it from the livecd, and wait.
If you don't have a CD-ROM, or don't want to waste one for this one time, go for UNetbootin (http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/), stuff a USB key into your computer and UNetbootin will take care of the rest. (You can install all kinds of OS' onto your computer from UNetbootin. It is really nice for those of us with netbooks.)

The only thing this OS/program does is to find the passwords that are locally stored on your computer's windows installation. It is useless in a business environment, and won't do this stuff remotely. So please don't spam this with "CRACK LOL" or other stupidity.

That being said, computer illiterate friends can be amazed by this Live-CD.
