notebook = laptop.

I prefer laptop and that seems to be the prevailing term. notebook was an early marketing term from the late 90's that appears to have fallen into disuse.

yes, netbooks are just tiny underpowered laptops made specifically for lightweight stuff like web and email.

Laptop is the word that's normally used in conversation.
Manufacturers use the term notebook because there are problems with using a laptop on your lap so they want to discourage such use.

Netbook <= 10.1 inch screen (by most standards). Notebook as far as I have seen is generally equivalent to Laptop, but in some circles is means a small laptop, say between 12 and 14 inch screens. Then there is the Desktop Replacement, large screens, large batteries, weight is not a deciding factor as long as it is just light enough that the average human can lug it around.
