I'm just throwing this out there...

I have a small 1 gig flash memory MP3 player and I was wondering if there is a Linux based firmware replacement available? It's a generic player details available upon request.

Most of the players today are using msdos with Windows only compatible firmware or Mac.

I would like an MP3 player that is compatible with my Ubuntu with out having to,
1.) use wine or my friends Windows machine to upgrade or repair it.
2.) Break any hardware licensing rules or regs as in the case with Apple products.

Any thoughts would be appreciated,
Cheers...

Cowon seems to be linux friendly. I've heard some people use Sansa also. Here (http://www.trekstor.de/en/products/detail_mp3.php?pid=66&page=1) is one that is linux compatible, and plays ogg also. Here (http://tuxmobil.org/portable_players.html) is a list of players to look through.
