Any computer enthusiast will know enough about computers and geeks to know whether they fit into that 'elite' species. So, do you consider yourself a geek? Just curious.

Everything in computers has a class or category.

Only in the addicted to tech and bad sci-fi sense.

Not in the original circus side show way though. I think I would like to have my chicken cooked before I bite the head off of it.

Yea, lets keep it limited to its current meaning only. I'd rather not think of people who bit the heads off live chickens.

I don't consider myself a geek in the sense that I don't know many programming languages (in fact, I only some Perl).

I also don't think that using Linux-based operating systems makes me a geek, it's simply what I prefer to use as a general OS.

Others around me consider me a "tech guy", I don't really know if it goes all the way to "geek", though.

Ultimate Geek Meter (http://www.sponsordirectory.com/Free-Content/Article/Ultimate-Geek-Meter/960)

I was negative all the way, until questions 10 and 15.

BTW, I love BSG enough to watch it several times and use a cylon avatar, but not enough to dress like Adama and go to a convention :)

No.

I'm not saying you can't be a geek unless you're asocial, I'm just saying your condition is in no way the norm.

I'm a total NON-geek, but I thank God for geeks! Geeks totally rock, and I've been rescued a few times by them when Vista was driving me crazy.

Most interesting, though, is that it was a non-geek who introduced me to Linux! And the only geeks I've had any dealings with since then have been in the forums.

I used to get beat up in school and called geek and nerd. I grew older and somehow managed to get rid of that image that once caused me beatings every now and then. I will therefor say this once and again that I am not a geek nor do I want to be.

I consider myself a geek, but i'm not completely socially retarded and do have a personality. So maybe that makes me a half-geek? I dunno :P

I am a chronic computer/internet/gadgets/tech addict. I love science fiction. I wear glasses.

But I've had girlfriends. I don't live in my parents' basement, I've got my own flat. My interests include sex and drugs and rock n roll. I can write simple bash scripts but I know no programming languages.

So I'm definitely geekish, but I don't think I'm dedicated enough to be a geek proper.

Yeah, half-geek would be good description for me too.
I'm rather new to Linux tho, but I'm learning it really fast. There is many Linux related societies too. This forum is a good example of happy and friendly Linux society. So you can't say that we're not social. In "real life" I haven't got girlfriend but I have very much good friends who I spend lots of my spare time with.

Hehe! I stripped my other computer down to almost nothing on the weekend, and I took apart my already-borked laptop _ lol

My computer is gonna get upgraded, and it will run either Kubuntu or Ubuntu + AfterStep, depending on my taste :)

So I don't think I am.

Although when compared to some of my in-laws I might have geekish tendencies, there are others in this community who are probably better qualified for the title of "geek" than I am.
