Gets reception everywhere, anytime-any continent. Has NO camera, touchscreen, or polyphonic ringers, or media playback ability. Only has a nice 1950s era bell ringer.

The myTouch (G2) is really much better than I had hoped.
The integration with Google stuff is smooth and fast and it is isn't hindered by corporate app filtering (like Apple).

It also doesn’t help that today’s youth can’t stay off the damn things. I want a Blackberry Storm, which is the most advance piece of technology on Cell phones available for the Mexican market, well not sure about that but I don't like the Nokia's and others.

I have some old Sony Ericcson walkman. Going to actually go buy a new phone today! The plug and play ability in Ubuntu with my old phone works out pretty well so I'd imagine that the newer Sony Ericcson will have similar functionality.

I was debating getting a smart phone because I'm starting my own business and email communication is becoming more crucial, but I think I can get away with installing opera and checking my email every so often. Plus ATT doesn't have any phones with a contract discount that I like, damn iPhone, hate it so much.

Samsung A727

http://handcellphone.com/wp-content/themes/green-marinee/phonepic/samsung-a727-3gphone.jpg
It's very slim and small and does everything I need it to do. It even does a few things better than all the fancy touch screen smart phones. It can multi task (kind of)! I can sign into my IM account, write a text, and while writing a text, receive an im, make a call, swtich to address book, etc... No, it's UI isn't very pretty but you can't argue w/ function. I can also do true one press dialing (con- butt dialing :( ) one button to stat a text message, etc... I tried im-ing from the iphone using that paloringo (?) im app and it's a miserable experience.

After having it for a while now, two years, maybe? I still love it. Though it's getting beat up a bit...and I haven't found anything similar in my casual searching for a replacement.

What kind of Cell Phone do you own?
I currently have an LG Xenon...the phone is ok, but my service provider sucks.

What is your dream Phone?
Anything that meets the following 3 requirements:
1. No contract with AT&T. I'm done with them...crappy service, dropped calls all the time.
2. Something that can support POP or IMAP e-mail.
3. Something that will allow me to tether my netbook to the unlimited Internet that I purchased for my phone without requiring another $60/month.

I'm holding my breath for the Nokia N900 (it runs Linux and beats the iPhone in specs, HELL YEAH!)

OTOH it'd be nice to see what a minimal phone which could only make calls and sms would be like if they crammed the latest power-saving screen-tech and longest-lasting battery-tech into it.

I own a palm pre. I am very pleased with it. I had been following its development since its announcement in january. Its OS is based on Linux and I'm happy to say, mine has a few tweaks applied to it, as well as a few homebrew apps.

http://www.liquidmatrix.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/palm-pre.jpg

One annoying thing about it is the battery life. It used to kick *** when I first got it (end of june), but over the past two weeks, its gotten quite bad (can't last the day without recharging)

I refuse to use GSM or recognize it as a legitimate (i.e. "FCC no-interference rules-abiding) broadcast standard.

I also refuse to be a customer of AT&T ever again.

Double-check to see which location services are turned on. GPS is the worst, of course, but they all cause more power to be drawn.

I normally keep them all off.

Fundamentally, though, I agree. The battery life sucks.

There are some longer capacity batteries available for it. One of which fits into the same slender-back case (and is therefore compatible with the induction-based charger) and the other one is much thicker and requires (and comes with) it's own replacement back. That rules out using the induction charger.

My current phone: Sony Ericsson K800i

http://www.mygizmoz.com/fox/file/pic/gallery/21997.jpghttp://www.cnet.co.uk/story_media/49280601/K800.jpg

It's 3G. The built-in Cyber-shot 3.2 megapixel camera is pretty good, for a phone camera anyway. There's a built-n FM radio, and also a good mp3 player (one thing Sony definitely know about is making portable personal music players). It came with a USB datacable so I can transfer media and, most importantly for me, I can use the phone to connect my computer to the internet. 3G data speeds may not be so great compared with conventional broadband, but it's still pretty damn good when you're out and about or if, like me, you have no phoneline or cable at home so cellphone connectivity is all you've got. And the phone also has a built-in email client, so I can receive and send mail to and from my Gmail accounts.

Also, like most dumbphones, the K800i can run java applications. I've got opera mini (mobile web browser - great if I haven't got my EeePC with me when out and about); MidpSSH (a telnet/SSH client, so I can access remote computers like my Freeshell shell account); Lavella digital radio; Vradio digital radio; Google Maps; YMTiny, a Yahoo Messenger client; and Youtube video player. Oh, I also installed MobiTwitter, which would allow me to tweet. But I don't use Twitter. Maybe one day I will...

As for my dream phone... probably one of those Linux smart phones. When they get better and cheaper (at the moment they are ridiculously underpowered and overpriced, but that will change with time). But for now, my crappy little dumbphone is plenty good enough!

From memory it's a Nokia 6610. It was hanging on the belt of my jeans when I had the crash in 2005 and apart from a sweetly cracked diagonal across the lcd (still usable and still all my old friends' numbers in the phone book) the little runt fared much better than I did, and that is why it remains my dream phone now.

PS: I forgot to mention that I lost it on February 29th last year, and was grieving all weekend, but the caretaker found it in the carpark and returned it on the Sunday. That's what dreams are made of.

I have a HTC Hero and I couldn't be more happier, a recent update fixed the lag issue which was first with the phone. Android is getting better and better, looking forward to version 2.0...and maybe a 1 GHz phone just 'cause it would be great ;)

The development sdk for Android is also fantastic, I am liking messing around with version 1.6. It would be nice to see more libraries implemented though...still early days I guess...

Wow! HTC Dragon now that would be awesome!

Should I wait?

It might be some time off yet, the hardware design of any phone using the chipset isn't complete yet I don't think, then you've got the crazy amount of time it takes before the mobile networks actually start selling the phones...

Your call, but I couldn't wait any longer. I had wanted an Android phone since the G1 was released, and when the Hero arrived I went with that because the design wasn't at all bad, even though I had heard of the snap dragon stuff already.

If I were you, I wouldn't wait.

You already have your mind set on one specific phone. If you wait for this HTC Dragon to come out, what are you going to do if an even cooler phone is announced before the Dragon comes out? Are you going to shove the Dragon aside and wait for the next big phone?

Hero was one of my favorite before Motorola Cliq, but the fact that it has no qwerty keabord make me a bit reluctant.

Have you got an unlocked edition or you picked up a contract with it?
If unclocked, how much have you paid and which store you have bought it?

Thanks.

I got an unlocked version here in Hong Kong. It's available "on the street" for about $350 USD, but I wanted to have a warranty so I went to one of the wireless carriers (PCCW) and bought an unlocked Hero for about $100 USD more. It would have been much cheaper if I'd gotten one of their contract plans, I'm sure, but I don't want that.

I'm slowly getting used to the touchscreen keyboard. I'm still a bit slow with it, but with some practice I think it will be almost as good as a hardware keyboard. Plus the Hero has excellent predictive text features, which can speed up typing considerably.

That is probably the only thing I don't like about owning an iPhone: AT&T.

However, even if Apple decided to expand to other providers, I'd still be stuck with AT&T because that's the only major provider we have up here.

I bought an HTC Hero the other day:

http://www.gadgetreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/htc-hero.jpg

I am very pleased with it but I am finding that the touchscreen is harder to type on than I expected so I would like a slide out keyboard like my nokia n810 has. Additionally the Calendar storage sync thread seems very unstable and keeps crashing, something I hope will be fixed with the promised Android 2.1 update that should be out around Christmas.

The GPS seems highly inaccurate (up to several miles in fact).

Finally I would love some means of doing profiles, e.g. I would like it to make noise when I sleep only for phone calls or skype calls so that my fiancťe can get a hold of me, but not for all the other alerts. Also please.. set me as being invisible on Google Talk as well I am tired of my friends forgetting that it's 4am in Denmark and wake me up. It shouldn't be that hard.

The buttons are a little bit smaller than my fingers, and I occasionally mis-dial. I haven't bothered figuring out accessing its multimedia storage without the benefit of the Windows software that came with it yet (won't install on a fully updated Vista on my laptop, but works with XP, and installable on a fresh install of Vista, and in any case I have an MP3 player) but its modem seems to work with Ubuntu.

Edit: I'm muttering rude words quietly: its box, which contains. amongst other things, a headset, usb cable and driver CD is lurking just out of reach under the table. Must've knocked it there when trying to figure out what the <adjectives deleted> was going on with my desktop.

Edit 2: Stupid voicemail! Mrs Lisati is on to the mobile carrier's help desk, even though I've sent them an email about a fault. <rant deleted>

Yes it is. I'm not completely sure as I don't understand the differences between the US carriers, but I think it will only be compatible with T-mobile's 3G network. I understand this is a big disappointment for a lot of customers in the US.

In the UK all the service's 3G's frequencies are the same as T-mobiles.

All best,

I want a Blackberry Storm 3 with faster web browser supporting adobe flash and an unparalleled camera and video. Double the battery life would be great. If they keep making them thinner soon you'll be able to sit on em and break em. Put a battery in that joker for goodness sakes. A long side sliding QWERTY would be fine with me.

The Storm 2 far surpasses my average Boulder GZ One phone in every way except battery. -I can miss a day of charging now- The Storm 2 will be dead by lunch if you do more than talk on it.

I know the Droid already does most of those things minus the ultimate camera, video and battery part but it's an ugly bulky phone. The Blackberry Storm 2 is beautiful. I've heard you can't hear on them and I also have trouble hearing someone using one.

Storm 3 is for me.

I don't have to have the absolute best phone, I also want a beautiful phone.

I'm now waiting for the Qualcomm Dual 1.5GHz CPU based Android phones to appear later this year. That will be well worth trying to run Linux on!

I have a $10 piece of Motorola junk.

I do not dream about phones.

I wish I didn't have a cell phone so no one could call me on it.

I have this:

http://www.mobilephone.co.in/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/LG-GW525-phone.jpg

LG Prime ??

If so, how do you like it ??

My daughter wants one but can't afford to spend the money if it's not a good phone.

Mine by the way is an LG EnV3, which is more phone than I really need. My Wife has a new Samsung Impression that she's happy as a clam with.

Replacing my Motorola A780 with something soon. Looks like a Nokia N95 might be in my future. :)

After my experience with Sony Ericson, I'd recommend against them. They seem to have a habit of dropping support for their products as soon as they are released. I had the Xperia X10a, which was a nice phone. After 9 months, the USB port stopped working as a charging port. Wasn't able to get it repaired under warranty.

My replacement is the Samsung Galaxt S2 X (SCH-T989D) which, as far as I can tell, is the most perfect phone I have ever seen. The only two troubles I have had with it are: By default it comes locked to Vlingo as a voice dialer, which is nice unless, like me, you don't have a data plan. I had to root the phone to remove Vlingo. Its replacement is as good, but doesn't need data. The other problem is the camera's auto focus while filming which seems to have trouble with point lights, like Christmas lights. The still shots are great and most video is great but in some videos the focus tends to hunt, even after finding focus.

It comes with Kies Air, which allows me to share files, photos, etc. with my ubuntu laptop painlessly.

I love this phone!

Current and dream phone together:
HTC Desire.

I own it for more than a year. After rooting it and installing a custom rom some weeks ago, it feels that I got meself a brand new phone.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

BOOST Mobile, I can't complain as I pay $50 and that includes unlimited everything(phone insurance which includes water damage)
Service great for me and when I went to Florida, service was great all the way down east coast.

I have an HTC Desire (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTC_Desire) running Android 2.2.2 with HTC Sense. I've had it for nearly two years and I'm very happy with it, easily the best phone I've had. I don't really have any desire (ha!) to replace it at the moment, although when I do it will almost certainly be with a newer Android phone.

I have an iPhone 3GS now, hitting the 1 year point. Prior to this I had an older LG Android phone (can't remember the model) and before that a Blackberry. When I get to the upgrade point from this iPhone (one more year to go..) I will probably go back to an Android of some kind. The main reason I went with the iPhone was price and convenience, joining my wife's family plan with AT&T and dropping my Verizon.

My dream phone? Android-based but capable of iTunes ;)
