Reet,

Getting an Audio interface next month...

Eridol UA25EX or Presonus Audiobox

Which ones have the better compatibility? using Jaunty 64bit and potentially getting the realtime kernal

not going to be for excessive recording but just to get Ideas down to take to the rest of the band for them to mess around with...

any help a bonus!

Thank Y'all!!

I just got the UA25EX - unfortunately haven't had the chance to play with it yet :/, so I can't give you hands-on advice just yet.

Some things to consider:

- the UA25EX unfortunately lacks 'clip' LED's
- the Audiobox only has balanced TRS outputs, UA25EX conveniently also sports 2 unbalanced RCA (cinch) outputs.
- the UA25EX has some extra's like a 'ground lift' switch and a builtin compressor/limiter
- the UA25EX has an 'advanced mode' switch. With 'advanced mode' switched off, it should work out-of-the-box. With it switched on, it has some more capabilities, but you might need a patch - see http://alsa.opensrc.org/index.php/Edirol_UA-25EX for more information
- I didn't find any information about the presonus on the ALSA pages. Might be because it 'just works(tm)', but who knows...
- the Audiobox is cheaper

tbh after looking into things a bit further I'm tempted to go fire wire and get a terratech phase x24.... or a firebox... my mate has a firebox so i might see if i can borrow it from him to test...

I was delighted to learn it actually does have a (single) 'peak' led for the compressor/limiter. Not as nice as having one for each input like on the fast track pro, but still useful.
