I have spent the last several hours scouring ubuntuforums for help with the sound problems in ubuntu on my new HP laptop, and have tried everything, to no avail. My sound works flawlessly in Vista (now, at least. It used to have a problem where the sound would stop working when I went into hibernate or standby and would have to restart the computer to get it fixed. Related?)

Anyways, I'm at my wits end about this. I love using ubuntu but I have to be able to play sound in order for it to be worthwhile.

I have tried the fix suggested here http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=6194461&postcount=3 but the file it opened was blank. I added the line anyway, just to see, but it didn't work

I tried the fix here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting#Having%20sound%20issues%20wit h%20HP%20dvx%20laptop which seemed the most promising, also no change

I tried uninstalling everything related to sound and reinstalling, nothing.

Any help anyone has would be greatly appreciated. (Also, I know someone is going to suggest this-- no, my sound is not on mute or down very low, I've triple quadruple checked). Thanks in advance!
