Hello!

This is really weird, but after Orange messed up our internet connection for a few days I switched my server back on, only to find the networking was broken.

when I tried to change the /etc/networking/interfaces file with nano, i got the following error when trying to save it : No such file or directory

I know I could re-create the directory, but my question is: what has caused this, and how do I prevent it from happening again?

It was up, and online for over 3 months with no problems, and seeing as all i did was run 'sudo halt' before turning it off is a major thorn.

Thanks for any help,
Ubu

Typo? You realize that file is etc/network/interfaces?
"Networking" is used in sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart

yes - my typo... sorry.
i realised that when trying to hep myself to fix it yesterday.

the directory isnt there in any case.
I think i'll re-install as it may well be faster than hunting the cause and fixing it.

thanks anyway,
Ubu
