Hello,

I have not been using Ubuntu very long, but I would say I am past the point of beginner at least as concerns installing printers. I have installed my HP1600 printer multiple times with success only to have the functionality cease for no apparent reason. I have uninstalled and reinstalled with success. I have also run into the same problem no matter how many times I reinstall the printer. I am using the menus and also CUPS. The message "printer may not be connected" shows up again as soon as I reinstall the printer. Other than this repeated (and intolerable) issue I have been very happy with Ubuntu and would appreciate any insight on how to make this stop. Thanks in advance.

If you have the printer plugged into a USB hub .. DON'T. Plug direct and see how well that holds up.
Some printers just do not function well through a hub, powered or not, as it adds a SECOND USB layer.
