Hi, I'm using a jaunty on my hp mini 1030nr and for some reason my cpu is being hammered by unseen processes. I cannot locate why or what is causing this, but I have a suspicion. I think that I am logged in as root, but I'm not sure how I would have done that, because I simply logged in to my mini the same way that I always do. In the event that I am logged in as root, then how would I not? What else can I do as a remedy for this? I'm plugged in at the library and the sound of my mini is getting me looks from people nearby. HELP!

I see Xorg and gnome-system monitor taking up quite a bit...not much other than that.

Turn off the gnome-system-monitor as it adds quite a bit of overhead, also shutdown avast, as it isn't doing you any good scanning for windows viruses.

You could try googling your video-card as well. If your card isn't configured properly it'll hog resources.
