Are you really for another Windows bashing thread? Go to the Windows 7 forum and ask them whet they think about the new Ubuntu Karmic coming out.
Honestly, this subject already has its threads.
You will not get as many vote with a public vote.

I've no opinion on the matter; I use Ubuntu /shrug if I need something else I'll form an opinion after I've tried it.

I have it. Yes it is better than Vista, but this is a Ubuntu forum where we talk about Ubuntu and Linux.

Ideally I'd like a "none of the above" choice. But I chose XP.

did you mean "ubuntu users who use windows, which of the three versions do you prefer?" that seems the most obvious interpretation of why you'd ask your question on a linux forum, but i guess it's best to spell it all out. if so, it's been asked.

You didn't even try to use the search function to find similar threads, did you?

I personally prefer Vista (don't hate me...)
I know that everyone claims it is unstable and slow, but it has worked fine for me. No major failures, I don't mind the UAC (I actually set UAC prompts to High in 7), and I think that the sidebar is better than loose gadgets.
As for why I don't like 7 as much:
I like the original taskbar better than the 7 one, although after using it for real, the Windows 7 taskbar is not as bad as I thought it would be. My main problem with 7 is the lack of the traditional quick-launch. I have over 20 quick launch items in a double-stacked taskbar in Vista and I think that the original taskbar is just quicker to work with. Also, the new notifications area isn't as intelligent as the old one. It hides everything immediately so I need to have it all set to show all the time and each icon takes up twice the space with no added functionality. Also, I have yet to figure out how to work the networking features, while in Vista it was really simple. The new control panel no longer offers the classic view, which I've always used. The "Lock" button has been removed from the Start menu and the Start menu search seems much slower. This could be from lack of indexing, but I can't get to that option because I can't have the classic view in control panel to find it... Also, the new emphasis on "themes" in personalization bugs me because I never used themes in any version of Windows. Now I have to use them in Windows 7. Sure, I'm guessing if you want to cycle between a few different options every once and a while it would be great, but I like to have something new and different every time I modify the settings and occasionally I only modify just the Aero color. Doing this in 7 creates a whole new theme. The slide-show desktop almost makes up for it, but not quite.
Honestly, almost all of my Windows 7 frustrations are GUI based. I haven't used it long enough to fairly assess stability issues. The boot up time is maybe a bit faster than Vista, but I haven't seen the amazing improvements that most seem to claim. It is nowhere near the speed of Jaunty. Also, system resources are about equal under 7 compared to Vista on my laptop.
Personally, I think Windows 7 is mostly eye-candy. Vista, in my humble opinion, is a good OS that got over-hyped, couldn't live up to ridiculous expectations, and was ahead of it's time resource-wise. No one that I know who uses Vista has had a problem with it, except for 64-bit compatibility issues, which are unavoidable.

I can agree with that. I know of very few people that have Vista, but the who do have it, like it. Personally I hated Vista for being so much different from XP. Now that I have tried Windows 7, I think it is nice. I must point out that I can't find any free anti-viruses for it nor does Wireshark work on it. I only installed it to learn about it and be able to fix it on other people's systems. Wireshark is a program I have to play with for school, so I can't have it failing. Luckily it works fine on Ubuntu.
I heart Ubuntu because it works best for me.

Between those three I like Windows 7 the best. It only wins from XP because of the new looks, XP is getting a bit outdated. The only problems I have with 7 are the continuous Blue Screens I get each minute. It has something to do with my videocard I believe.
Vista is working fine, but I'm missing the overview on my monitor. Somehow I fail to focus on the needed data immediately.

XP. Never liked the vista/win 7 interface. Looks like Willy Wonka. Same reason im no KDE fan.
