Solve this simple equation.

%&@/##x!#-&@(/$#x!>&$+^*) {=}

Think contrarily.

Post answer and your own equation and pass to the next player.

KIS please, no square roots, squaring or cubing.

{=} to represent =.

Nicko

:confused:

572*33...........

The only symbol here that is contrary is x.

The answer to this equation has 9 decimal places, I think 4 decimals in answer will suffice.

This is a simple equation. Add. subtract, multiply & divide are all that is required.
I can't give any more clues other than in the first 6 posts.

No brackets, x is multiply, ) is 0
--I have to add one more clue--the key

My interpretation (remove the shift key...):

572/33x13 - 72/(43x1.74+68 )
=0.829.. assuming x is multipy..

Yes, but numbers missing,
think contra

Let's give this a try. Assumptions:
x = multiply
/ = divide
+ = add
- = subtract
> = decimal point (period)
( and ) represent 9 and 0, respectively, not their mathematical equivalents.

adding some spaces around the operators for readability:
%&@ / ## x !# - &@( / $# x !>&$ + ^*) {=}

convert:
572 / 33 x 13 - 729 / 53 x 1.73 + 68

Applying standard order of precedence:

(572 / 33 x 13) - (729 / 53 x 1.73) + 68

225.33333 - 23.7957 + 68 =

269.5376

Lloyd B.

Edit - I goofed on the conversion (that stupid close parentheses got me). Should have been:

convert:
572 / 33 x 13 - 729 / 53 x 1.73 + 680

Applying standard order of precedence:

(572 / 33 x 13) - (729 / 53 x 1.73) + 680

225.33333 - 23.7957 + 680 =

881.5376

I agree with Llyod's final result, I goofed up too as I only had a few minutes as I was getting ready for the river fire (Brisbane festival). It was fantastic! You didnt go Nick?

Sorry if this a little cryptic, all clues are in the first 6 posts.

Contrary as in opposites.

The x and the key are vital to the solution.

Nahh bloke, bin there dun that, I can sit on the roof of our houase & watch umpteen thousand litres of avgas being dumped on the River City.

'sides, Nth. St. Joey's had a few crackers last night.

Too busy gettin' angry with stupid refs when the Broncos won - some good footie, pity about the refs. Dave Taylor's try was great but Lockyer's was a feat of athletic ability that any one, be you sport lover or ballet devotee, just absolutely marvellous ( it wasn't the only one _ Broncos v Titans Grand Final is my prediction)

Hmmmm.

In your key, you specify 572*33..., but the "encrypted" equation shows a / in the fourth place. Contra - as in switch the operators? (x = divide, / = multiply, + = subtraction, - = addition)?

%&@ / ## x !# - &@( / $# x !>&$ + ^*) {=}
572 / 33 x 13 - 729 / 53 x 1.73 + 680 Convert number values
572 * 33 / 13 + 729 * 53 / 1.73 - 680 Swap operators
1452 + 22333.5260 - 680
23105.5260

How's that?

Sorry i've taken this long Lloyd B..

I've had a good sleep & am concentrating better now.

%&@ / ## x !# - &@( / $# x !>&$ + ^*) {=}

There's the key other wise I reckon you've got it

I've really enjoyed this and have found one more Linux user in Brisbane, that's three of us now, that I know of.

As I said at the start, it is contrary-- I used x in lieu of * . That is the smokey, use the numerical keys, but substitute your own symbol for one of actions of adding or.....
that is up to the composer.

I'm not having much luck with spacing of the equation, I've imported it from gedit {or the KB}

%&@ / ## x !# - &@( / %# x !>&$ = ^*)

I hope that helps.
