is there anyway to recover a pc that used to run 98 and run the cd drive through grub? I have a bootable floppy with grub on it, but I don't know how to make it run the installation cd.

you need to go into your bios settings and have it boot from cd

make sure you have a good burn of the iso image. If you dont then burn it again at a very slow speed.

You want to make sure you're using good quality cd's and burning at the slowest speed.

I got the same problem and couldn't resolve it so I just went ahead and ordered a free ubuntu cd and it worked perfectly!

Plus you get free ubuntu stickers when you order lol.
Good luck!

Also, run an "md5sum" on the iso image that you downloaded to make certain that it's 100.00% correct. If you get errors download again and check again.

now umm, I am getting beeping noises from the machine when I don't run grub off the floppy?, I have it set to read the cd to, but it seems to be refusing.
