View Full Version : [gnome] Skin KDE apps in GNOME?

Hi, I just recently installed kdenlive since Pitivi video editor does not have effects/transitions, but I'd like to know how to use my GNOME theme with it so it doesn't look out of place.

I do not use the default Human or Human Clearlooks theme(s), instead I use BlueSpace II, which is a Metacity theme I use with my custom desktop.

Is it possible to skin KDE apps like normal using Metacity, or do I have to go through some complex thing with Kcontrol?

Speaking of which I can't install Kcontrol.... the Terminal says it's obsolete, and lists two packages that might replace it, though I don't know what to do with them...

I'll settle for the KDE equivalent of BlueSpace II (I'll attach a screenie of the Metacity theme) or some similar theme, or maybe change my entire Desktop (Perhaps a nice red instead of blue....) to go with a nice-looking KDE theme.

BTW, the link to the guide referring to KControl is here (http://thedarkmaster.wordpress.com/2007/07/03/kde-applications-looking-bad-in-gnome-lets-fix-em-up/).

Thanks,

Try installing qt4-qtconfig and looking in System -> Preferences for Qt 4 Settings. Set GUI style to Desktop Settings and go to File -> Save. If that doesn't work, try downloading qt3-qtconfig and polymer. Then go open Qt3 Settings in System -> Preferences and choose polymer. You may need to play with the colors. You may be able to use another KDE but you'd have to find out how by yourself.

Okay, Qt 4 was already installed, went to Settings, changed the look... but kdenlive didn't change one bit. I'll try Qt 3.

Try changing the Qt4 theme to "GTK+".

Actually, I forgot to mention that that's what I changed it to.

Yeah, kdenlive is just being stubborn, but now I have a Windows Vista theme, so I guess it looks okay now.

Staring at my Desktop now, all I need are *working* Vista icons and I'll almost have an exact Vista clone... well, in terms of appearance, anyway.
I am so glad Ubuntu is NOTHING like Vista in terms of performance...
