I recently bought generals & I'm now thinking of installing windows for a dual boot so I can use windows for games & ubuntu for all other stuff.
But a friend of me told me that generals works also on linux but the best graphic drivers are for nvidea & not for ati. Will the game work also fast on ubuntu (standard installation) or will it work better on windows with the radeon drivers? Or what drivers should I install on ubuntu to make my ati card work properly?
Thanks,
Joris

Hey there! Glad to know there's another CnC fan in the Ubuntu world =)
Honestly, I would suggest running Generals on the Windows partition mainly because ATI lacks performance linux drivers. Right now, I have a Radeon x700 Pro and I get roughly 5 fps on the game. Until you purchase a better video card, just let windows be your gaming os of choice.
To properly get your videocard's drivers working for proper hardware acceleration on Ubuntu, go to this link:
Ubuntu Installation Guide (http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Installation_Guide)
There are Linux ports of other popular games (Quake 4, Doom III, America's Army), and you can try using Cedega or Wine for some other games requiring less graphical power (Shattered Galaxy, CnC Red Alert 2).

You can use the Cedega_TimeDemo, to see if it works for you without having to buy it first. It can be quite cheap to - $15 US.
I installed it a little over a week ago, very easily, & Guild Wars ran straight away, without configuring anything!
