Is there any way to change my default video player to VLC? It seems like MoviePlayer can't play anything I want to see and having to download all the time so I can use VLC is a serious pain.

Right Click on video file, Choose Properties

Click on arrow to right of "Open with" dialog

Choose your program :)

Is there a way to use Open With without having download the file? This is what I am trying to avoid having to do all the time.

System > Preferences > Preferred Applications
It only lets you change a few but it does let you pick which program plays videos.

It doesn't matter. For example, if you have an avi file on disk, doing what I suggested will affect all avi files you try to watch.
