Hi all..

I am new to linux, but 15 years windows/netware. I am hoping someone can help me as in looking at the different packages or distro's I would much rather use Ubuntu.

Anyway.. I had been running my new mail server on a pc for testing and decided to take out exchange and install it on the server.

my server
tyan 2882 g2nr dual socket opteron mb
2 opterons dual core
megaraid 300-8x
6 sata hard drives 500gb raid 10

I have been trying to get this to work for the last 30 hours... i am pretty disappointed...

Problem:
Ubuntu 804LTS Server 32 bit installs fine.. on re-boot it says it can't find boot drive. not sure why.. mybe a grub problem.. but if install works why not boot?

804lts 64 bit.. during install i get a grub error.. fatal.. so no install

Ubuntu 904 64 bit during install i get a grub error . fatal so no install

LSI Mega raid cards are great cards.. why does this not work..?

I have been downloading and trying other distros.. just to see if they will work..

Please help.. I don't want to have to install SUSE 10.3.. (it installs fine by the way.. but i don't know that one..)

All the server parts are fine.. I have tested memory using memtest86+.. I have been running windows mail server on this box for several months...

Fedora has an unexcepted handler on install...
I am going to try.. debian and cent os next...

Not exactly sure because you've been working on windows/netware literally since I've been born... but I would try debian next. If that work then it would only be a little jump from ubuntu since they're like 80% the same.
