I've been looking all over the internet for a place to buy this game... I know it's old but I figure that someone has to have a copy of this available. The only thing I could find was a couple copies from people wanting $30+ bucks (and that's not even including everything that originally came with the game). Is there anywhere else that I could buy this game? Does anyone know some online retailers who would still have a copy of this game in stock? Is there anyone here that would be willing to sell their copy of this game? I wouldn't mind paying $20 bucks or so if all I'm getting is the game and the license, but when the price starts getting up into how much it costs for new Linux games then I'll have to think about how much I really want this for my collection :D.

This has got pretty much nothing to do with linux-gaming, but anyway...
Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00001ZT77/sr=1-11/qid=1139075421/ref=sr_1_11/103-1095617-8960656?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance) here has at least that one with less than 10bucks...
And eBay search for "Heroes of Might & Magic III" (http://search.ebay.com/Heroes-of-might-magic-III_W0QQfkrZ1QQfromZR8QQsatitleZHeroesQ20ofQ20migh tQ20Q26Q20magicQ20III) Finds loads of them, even cheeper than amazon...

Where else should this question be on topic if not here? Getting the Windows version is no problem at all, but he looks for the Linux version.
I could only tell you a German retailer (www.ixsoft.com for 16 Euros), but that's probably no option...
I know SuSE had a good Linux related online shop, but after they where bought by Novell this shop has disappeared.
Maybe some of the resellers named on the (long abandoned) Loki page still offers their products: http://www.lokigames.com/orders/resellers.php3

You could also try here:
http://www.elx.com.au/cat/software/games
They may have or be able to supply what you want, their prices are usually pretty good.

Obviously you aren't familiar with Loki's popular port of this game to Linux, and in turn other similar OSes. The links you have given are all for the Windows-based version of the game.
As for tuxgames.com or happypenguin.org, I've looked into those and they are out of stock. Also, it looks like the Australian company (elx.com.au) also doesn't carry this game anymore. I may be out of luck.

There's one for ya. I was thinking that Descent 3 was the one that was open sourced, but I guess I was wrong, that is 1 and 2.
