I am brand spanking new to Ubuntu, and the main reason that I switched was because I wanted to be able to use the security software that is mostly only available for linux. Anyway, I recently downloaded and installed NMap using the package manager. However, any time I run a scan with that scanner or even the default Ubuntu one, I get nothing, no open ports, no ping return, nothing; even on computers already in my local network. Does Ubuntu have a firewall that I need to modify or disable? Does this sound like a network problem? I'm reasonably sure it's not, since port scanning functions work with Windows on my PC. If I'm not giving enough info, just ask.
