What would be the closest equivalent of MS Publisher for Linux, something that's fairly easy to use? Scribus is out of question, and OOo Draw and Impression are both a little lacking in terms of features.
(It's for my mum, BTW)

Assuming she will make documents with graphics, pictures, and various columns of text, Inkscape, Gimp, and Abi-word, and dig up tutorials/how-to articles on the specific features she will use, so she isn't overwhelmed by the other features. Setting up printer properly is next, and best to buy one known to work out-of-the-box, with the linux version
she is using.

Why is scribus out of the question? It's pretty much the best option for full blown desktop publishing on linux.
