Does anyone know the best programming language for games? I'm going to try to make a Super Smash Bros. clone. Any extra links for guides & other stuff would be cool, too. Thanks!

I go back and forth between languages. Right now, I'm using C as my primary language with Ruby as my scripting language. At the same time, I'm looking into learning some functional programming (correct phrasing?), and am trying to decide between Haskell or Scheme.
