Virtualbox-ose guest additions has pointer recognition but no changing resolution!

I have Virtualbox-ose and guest additions 2.1.4 and ever since I updated to a service pack (or probably some other update), the guest OS (Windows XP) resolution does not change automatically for me nor can I change it manually to anything other than 800x600 from 640x480. Now that I removed the service pack, the issue still exists! I really need to solve this issue because I am depending on the Windows OS for a java programming course!

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

I would advise you upgrade to a more recent version of virtualbox (PEUL edition from the sun site) and re-install the Additions.
