Fail to destroy VM

Ubuntu9.04
KVM

On running;
virsh # destroy vm17
libvir: QEMU error : invalid domain pointer in no domain with matching id -1
error: Failed to destroy domain vm17


vm17 is NOT running. Please advise how to proceed. TIA
