Well, if the commercial leads to greater marketshare, then perhaps Toshiba will have more incentive to create that Linux driver.

Simple, Linux is just as good as any other operating system. The big difference is that the other operating systems have a huge marketing budget to make the masses want (or need) them.
Yet another example of the continual disconnect between those who have had virtually no problems with switching, and those who have.
I would love to see a Linux commercial too, but it shouldn't be aimed at the average end user yet. The business sector, fine. Rock on!
I agree with others who say, the sooner we bring more on board, the sooner we'll get the manufacturer support we need.
One thing to keep in mind that the 'Linux is ready' crowd always misses (or don't care about), is that, for every user that is burned by an unready distro, two things happen:
1) The likelyhood of them trying it again anytime soon is slim. Most of them won't come back until they hear that Bill Gates has signed up for food stamps.
2) They will spread the nasty word about their experience to everyone they know who was watching to see how well it would work for them. When their friends and family hear that it was a PITA and wouldn't do what they wanted, it'll put the fear of God in them.
Every announcement that 'Linux is ready!' brings on some new converts, sure, but it also burns quite a few.
Ironically, (and sadly), I trust a company like Google to do what all the other distros have struggled with: Deliver to the masses what the masses actually want, and without the dogma and finger wagging.
What an ironic twist it will be for OSS, if the Uber-Capitalist Google-Beast lays down a double whammy, slaying not only the MS-OS dragon, but also dragging the Linux desktop community, kicking and screaming, into the 21st century! hehehehehhehe :D
