I have a problem with using gtkWifi, which, despite the obvious advantages of this tool, is making me not use it at all..

I have mainly two places of work, home and school.. and just want a utility to decide one of the two ssids, and apply them to the wireless settings.. even if it doesnt detect on its own, it should give me an easy option to switch..

the problem with gtkwifi is for some reason, it does not connect to my school network automatically, even though the correct mac address and the ssid is present in the preferred networks list.. i dont mind manually switching the network..

the main problem arises after I connect.. the connection seems to be osciallting between connected and disconnected every second or so.. i thought it just seemed like that in the signal strength graph (which gave a pretty cool sawtooth pattern :p ) but the internet itself became very slow..

Can anyone help me with this?

Its the only problem holding me back from using this utility..

Otherwise, can anyone tell me commands for a simple terminal script which can switch between "home" and "school", if they are the ssids...

PS> sorry for the noobish talk..

I sure don't want to insult your intelligence but have you tried pinging your gateway repetitively? I would start at home (where its good?) and ping at different disstances, through walls etc... Then try again at school. Sounds like a signal problem or maybe(slim) router overload. Do you have a line of sight at school? Good luck.

haha... thanks for mentioning u didnt want to insult my intelligence.. i would've been insulted :)

no i use the connections fine using the gnome network monitor (and have been for months now), and can switch between school and home.. it just requires clicking around, and entering the su password, and I wanted to skip all that, with gtkwifi, or with a script..

the problem is definitely not with the network.. its with gtkwifi...
