HP HDX laptop keyboard not working

I just bought this (http://www.costco.ca/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=10325197&whse=BCCA&Ne=4000000&eCat=BCCA|84|22494&N=4009835&Mo=38&No=12&Nr=P_CatalogName:BCCA&cat=22494&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-CA&Sp=C&topnav=) laptop and am trying to install Ubuntu 9.04 on it. I'm currently running it off LiveCD and the keyboard and touchpad doesn't work. The lights on the keyboard light up though.

It looks like someone else (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1227438) has the same problem, but there's no solution there.

Tried with both 9.04 64 bit and 8.04 32 bit and neither work.

The touch pad and keyboard work when I select "Install Ubuntu" from the menu. I'll see if it works after installation.

Bumping this for an update on the issue.

Sometimes, the keyboard and touch pad works, and sometimes it doesn't. From the few times I booted it up into Ubuntu, they don't work if I select Ubuntu in the grub menu and press enter, but if I let the counter go down to 0 and have grub pick the default OS (Ubuntu) for me, then it works.
What could be the problem and how would I fix it?

Would it help if I posted a log for both cases? If so, which log?

I have an HDX model, and I had issues with the keyboard when running from a live CD, but I went ahead and installed it (starting with 8.10, and it worked with the install. It could be related to the boot process for the Live CD. (Considering how little time the install takes once you shrink the windows partition, it's worth trying.)
