I have noticed a lot of posts about users wanting to get Windows applications (specifically games, hence the post in the gaming forum) running in Ubuntu.
Can we get a sticky on a how-to on how to get Cedega running in Ubuntu? It would appear from a quick search that it's as easy as downloading it, and typing "sh installer.sh", but what about the free version - as far as I know that needs compiling...
I will see if I can put together a how-to for posting in this thread.

These 2 should be all you need for installation. (probably a brave statement)
This is specific for installation, it worked perfectly for me:

This is more broad based, (it includes the above link) from a search of the Ubuntu Document Storage Facility:

I should say that it seems that the CVS version of cedega & the commercial version are NOT the same thing. I have found it impossible to run Guild Wars under CVS but easy under commercial!
I am no master, that's for sure...

As handy says, CVS Cedega and commercial Cedega are not the same thing, they're not even in the same league.
I think the current wine (0.9.6) is better than the CVS Cedega and a lot easier to install. You can get it straight from WineHQ by adding a repository and using apt-get or Synaptic. No compiling and messiness. [-(
Commercial Cedega is well worth the cost (IMHO :)) but if you want to be sure that it will run your software, you can still download a time demo, from Transgaming.
Cedega Time Demo (It's at the bottom of the page) (http://www.transgaming.com/products_linux.php)
The time demo convinced me that I would benefit from commercial Cedega rather than sticking with wine. Which by the way runs my Windows applications very well, but Cedega is much better for gaming.

Yes, the Cedega_TimeDemo installs very easily, & is a good way to see if it suits you.
You can very easily use the Point2Play GUI front end, to install previous versions of Cedega, which is often necessary, to get the optomum performance out of certain games:
Menu: Transgaming / Download Previous Version
Commercial Cedega is pretty slick, but be sure to test what you want to run with the demo, it can take a bit of fiddling & some time for some games, & others will just not work!

hehehe - Join the club! This was more of a suggestion that we have a sticky in this forum we can refernce people to.
It makes sense to me, rather than have it in the how-to section.

I think that a BIG problem is all the different hardware configurations that exist.
What works for one system just won't on another similar, but not the same, machine. & every shade of grey in between...
Different versions of drivers & other software multiply the diversity in an exponential rate!
I do agree that some common info' could be found for various games, & there settings.
It's always the same problem:
You don't know, what you don't know!
