kvm and Windows 7 - display issue

I've done Xen virtualization before, but this is my first try with kvm. I'm trying to virtualize Win7RC1 on a Dell E6500 laptop. I'm getting far enough into the process that I've created the loopback disk, and I'm booting into the DVD, and I get the attached - garbage display. I've run into this in 9.04, and even tried 9.10 - same results.

I assume it's some type of display setting, but I'm new enough to Ubuntu that I'm not sure where to begin looking. Pointers in the right direction appreciated.
