View Full Version : [SOLVED] Printer prints empty tables

On my Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope OS I replugged my HP Deskjet F4275 inkjet printer after having not used it for quite a while. Last time was on hardy I believe..
Ubuntu recognized the printer right away so all seemed ok. Then I printed some pages from Open Office Writer 3.0. Ubuntu indicated they were printed, but they weren't. Then I removed some printers that were no longer there and unplugged and plugged the current printer again as it somehow got disconnected.
I printed the pages again. This time the printer did print but only empty tables! I made some vocabulary lists in columns. The table borders or the table framework was printed, but no vocabulary! Why?
I printed a regular text pages from OO as well and printing was successful according to Ubuntu, but nothing was printed!! What is going on here?

FYI I do have hplib-data, hplip installed,

tried to uninstall and reinstall hplib via the HP Linux Drivers site. Got this error during installation:

Configure failed with error: python-devel not found

After the installation failed I did a sudo hp-check -t
(had to reinstall hplip-data) and this came out:

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or
.run) to determine if the proper dependencies are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an
already built HPLIP supplied tarball has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode will check both of the above cases (both
compile- and run-time dependencies).

removed hplip again and did the installation with th HP installation file I downloaded for my model using this command:
sh hplip-3.9.8.run
And again this error:
error: Configure failed with error: python-devel not found after a warning that a previous version was still and installed and would be overwritten because it could not be removed. of course it could not be removed cause I already did with
sudo apt-get remove --assume-yes hplip hpijs foomatic-db-hpijs
I don't get this at all...

Well it was partly my HP printer that was at fault. So this has been resolved by replacing cartridges and reinstalling all software. All is good now.
