View Full Version : [ubuntu] How to create an ad-hoc wireless connection between Jaunty (on MBP5,1) and Intrepid

Hi!

I 've been playing around to get an ad-hoc wireless connection between two ubuntu-boxes (as stated in the title of this thread). Unfortunately (for me) I can't get it working no matter what guide I follow (there are several on the web, like [1][2][3]).

Did anybody successfully shared an internet connection using ad-hoc between a Mac (running Ubuntu of course) and another laptop?

Whenever I try to create manually a new wireless network, a network called "hoving's ad-hoc" pop's out although I am 100% sure that I have never used this name to name a network profile. Where is this coming from?

Thanks, Nikos

Silly... it's another person's ad-hoc which pop's up all the time. How can I force it to be ignored?

I followed all of those too and none of them worked. I'm trying to connect to an unprotected ad-hoc network created in Vista from a MacBookPro5,3 on 9.04 64-bit. I don't get any popups though, and I can't even see the ad-hoc network in the wireless networks list anyway
Other than that, the wireless functions just fine, I could even connect to a WPA network. :)

Right, no problem using any wireless connection (WEP, WPA, WPA2, etc.). But the ad-hoc story... :-(
