Hello,

(I've previously posted this question on this forum (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1245985), but have yet to receive a good response.)

Since I have to access the internet through a proxy here in China, I cannot find out how to let Synaptic AND my system76 driver update. I have previously tried to manually configure the http proxy by which Synaptic connects to the internet with no success th(i.e. after trying to update, everything fails because the "404 could not be found".)

How do I change this? I need to update the driver and my system.

[The only information the school gave me about accessing the information was the following:

Enter the web browser and try to set proxy for Lan. Enter the address 192.255.255.16 with port 3128. Click ok and then enter your username and password when prompted.]

It looks like the latest posts on the other thread are *after* you posted this one. Did the "Find Best Server" idea work for you?

I'm not really sure how one would work around the Great Firewall of China, but if you still need help on it, we'll see what we can do.

Hi Thomas!

I've been so busy here the last few days that I've had no time to even play around on the computer besides making ridiculous powerpoints for fifth graders!

At any rate, I tried to choose the best server and it returned a prompt saying that there was no good server found. It might be because I'm going through the school's proxy and it still can't find anything. I think, in the end, I'm just going to go off campus and try to find wireless in the city. Maybe then I will just be dealing with the Great Firewall instead of the combined force of Shanghai High School proxy and China.
