Yea, welcome to the world of me being a noob.
So I need help.
I downloaded the cinelerra .tar.bz2, unzipped it and now what do I do to install it?
What do I need to type into the terminal?:KSThe star is for the first person who answers and helps.

There will probably be a README and/or an INSTALL file detailing how to install the program. If you downloaded the program's source, you will most like wind up running ./configure, make, and make install.

Much easier to install the *deb files: http://cinelerra.org/getting_cinelerra.php#ubuntu

not all the time does the software provider release a .deb file though.

You only asked about Cinelerra. What other software are you looking for?

Hi JoshStrobl,

You are about to install the official cinelerra version ==> http://www.heroinewarrior.com/cinelerra.php . For this version (cinelerra HV 4.0) you only have to download the binary archive which is a tar.bz2 file. If you untar this file it will give you a folder. In this folder just run ./cinelerra in a terminal.

On www.cinelerra.org there is another version of cinelerra which seems to be more stable (the 2.1 community version). For this one I advice you to compile it unless you want a .deb file as oldos2er suggest you.

Have fun.
