Hi, I just did a clean install of Ubuntu and have been trying to get a driver for my ATI Radeon x300. On the official AMD site (http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx), but when you select Linux x86 > Radeon > x300, it takes you to the 64 bit driver whether you choose Linux x86 or x86_64. I'm thinking I'm going to have to give up on getting Catalyst, where can I find another driver that will work with my card?

If you want to use the ATI driver, you have to install 8.04 or 8.10 or
downgrade your xorg...
The free driver for you :

How does one downgrade xorg? Or, if moving to 8.10/8.04 would be easier, can that be done without reinstalling Ubuntu completely?

Oh, and I suppose I should've mentioned I'm on 9.04.

Downgrading xorg is not what a beginner should do,
downgrading ubuntu is even harder.Best solution for you:
New installation of Ubuntu 8.04 or 8.10 and use of ATI (fglrx) driver.
