View Full Version : [xubuntu] mute modem volume?

I just put Xubuntu 9.04 on an HP Pavilion N5310, and so far, so good. It has no ethernet port, so I put in wireless adaptor I had lying around (D-link WNA-2330), and it immediately lit up, detected the network, and started working.

However, the modem is now making sounds which would be immediately familiar to anyone who remembers the glory days of dial-up. It sounds like a cross between a Geiger counter and static. I can make it tick like a clock by pinging my router.

Now, at the moment I think this is adorable, but I'm sure it's going to get pretty annoying pretty quick, and I can't figure out how to silence it. Muting the volume mixer does nothing.

Help?
