hi!
Hello

Where can i find help??
Here or the server forum

Does ubuntu support this well?
Just as well as any other distro would. As long as there is a linux server application (there usually is) it will work great.

which version of ubuntu best suits this?
Probably 9.04

What is the max RAM it can support?
Just as much as any other 64 bit operating system: 17.2 billion gigabytes, 16.8 million terabytes, or 16 exabytes of RAM
OR
If you have a 32 bit computer: 4 gigabytes

I would appreciate all input! thx

Servers don't take as much power as you might think. A good network connection is the most important.

Any server version. I'm not sure if you should get the long term service one or 9.04 (notice that the version number is the release date)

You will not get any GUI which will keep electricity bills down and give you cooler CPU.
You should SSH into the computer from your main computer (there is probably a hack to get SSH to work on windows if you are into that kind of stuff). But all those perks come with a prize of learning few simple commands and it's syntax.

(it's not complicated, only weird at first if you aren't used to it)

Google "super computers ram" to check how much ram people have managed to get into these monsters. But Im quite sure it is many times more than what you afford to buy and your motherboard doesnt support that much ram.

Just go for something cheap and preferably old. Even used if you can find some for free.
Game servers dont require much, specially with ubuntu server. If you have 10 year old computer in the attic I think it is time to bring it down.

If you are building a new computer, make sure it is by a proper vendor and google to see if there is any problem with that hardware.
