With what seems development on Ubuntu's Netbook Remix taking a back seat, and projects such as Moblin, Jolicloud, and Chrome OS coming to life; I was wondering if S76 plans on supporting one, or more of these OS's?
I for one am excited for the Moblin project, but Jolicloud seems cool too. :P

Personally I wish they would port eeeBuntu over to the Starling. I have it installed on my ASUS 900HA and love it. Here is the URL:

Just my two cents.

Ubuntu Netbook Remix development is still in full swing. The 9.10 interface looks nice:

I would like to see some sort of "Dashboard" above Favorites. It should include rss feeds, email, pics from flikr, twitter, etc. Something that more closely ties the interface to the net. Also, rather than simply displaying information, we should be able to interact with the internet through our desktop rather than clicking a link that opens a browser. i.e. a drop down arrow next to a email for a quick reply.
Moblin looks interesting and a Ubuntu Moblin version is in the works. I've played with it on the Starling. It doesn't feel like a 2.0 yet. The interface also feels better suited to a touch screen/keyboard combo. Maybe a Netbook Tablet?
Jolicloud lacks the same Internet/Desktop integration that I really want to see. In general I'd like to remove the idea that the browser is the Internet.

Thanks for the heads up, Carl. You are right, the new interface looks good. I like the way it frees up more desktop space.

What about Xandros? The eee pc uses it, and it seems super snazzy. =P

I second the vote of hope for application integration into the desktop. First priority being the browser. For a green user there is really no need to understand what oss program they are using as a back-end.
if this comes to fruition however im sure the more advanced users will want to have the ability to switch out which programs are integrated without compromising all the streamlining that was involved with the default programs... but this can be compromised, after all it is only a netbook

What are the chances of System76 repackaging something like the Crunchpad or the Always Innovating (http://www.alwaysinnovating.com/) TouchBook? I'd love to be able to get one of those with System76 branding and support!

I was thinking the same thing when I read Lee_Machine's first statement. I was like "What the heck is he talking about, since when?". Mr. Shuttleworth himself pretty much stated that Karmic was going to be UNR's real coming out party, and there's a good deal of development going on in the Netbook Remix department at Canonical. Even KDE guys are trying to get in on the act with their own Kubuntu Netbook Edition.

Yeah, I have since been doing some reading on UNR, and there is a lot more going on that I didnt know about.
In the past year there has been an EXPLOSION in the netbook OS arena.
I just need to get myself a netbook. :lolflag:
What model is the S76 Starling? I need to know so I can look at some HCLs.
For instance will builds of Jolicloud, and Moblin work on it?

I have the Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 running on my netbook , Dell Mini 9, and I couldnt be happier. I ordered the netbook with Dell's flavor of Ubuntu - i nixed it because UNBR looks so much more sexy!
This really should be an option to configure the starling!
