Ok, I've been wanting to do this for a while...

Basically, when I look at the Kubuntu logo, the three "8-tooth" gears on the logo look like small snowflakes to me.

Now... When looking at the KDE logo, I feel the gear is more "iconified" and less... well... complicated. For some reason I've always felt the KDE logo doesn't seem to be portrayed well by simply replacing the ubuntu circles with small gears.

So, I did some work on the laptop using a live cd and Gimp. I've attached 9 mock-up logos hoping for feedback. Click the links below to see each mock-up.

Cheers.

All Logos, side by side [click here (http://ubuntuforums.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=125973&stc=1&d=1251052908)]
Logo 1: "Gear hands (http://ubuntuforums.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=124935&d=1250312044)"
Logo 2: "Right Hand (http://ubuntuforums.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=124936&stc=1&d=1250312045)"
Logo 3: "Gumdrop Head (http://ubuntuforums.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=124937&stc=1&d=1250312045)"
Logo 4: "Shoulder Pads (http://ubuntuforums.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=124938&stc=1&d=1250312045)"
Logo 5: "Power Gear (http://ubuntuforums.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=124939&d=1250312044)"
Logo 6: "Notched Out (http://ubuntuforums.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=124940&stc=1&d=1250312554)"
Logo 7: "Soccer Ball (http://ubuntuforums.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=124941&stc=1&d=1250312554)"
Logo 8: "Star Burst (http://ubuntuforums.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=124942&stc=1&d=1250312554)"
Logo 9: "Chipped Tooth (http://ubuntuforums.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=124943&stc=1&d=1250312554)"

P.S. I am a fan of Kubuntu and I do like the logo, just looking for some artistic opinions, and maybe some feedback. I own 2 ubuntu and 1 kubuntu shirt, so I do like the current logo as I proudly wear it on my back. :)

+1 I also feel perhaps the kubuntu logo could use some minor changes :) Your logos are great! I think the first one, gearhands, looks to be the best.

Cool work

Powergear looks best to me. It is most similar to the standard kde logo, but includes the 3 different colors.

Those are all great, I like the first two best because I think they really combine the spirit of the two logos.. where as towards the end there you went a bit mad ;)

I'm excited to see good feedback. I seriously expected a bunch of negative comments, and there hasn't been any! This forum rules. :)

Personally I like 4. "Shoulder pads" very much, it's completely created from circles only, and that simplicity attracts me. Very clean design.

Also "Gear hands" is IMHO very nice.

I don't like power gear very much, maybe just because of the quality of mock up, maybe because the idea itself.

I also quite like the original, although it's difficult to scale it down to tiny size. But I think the proposal has lot of appeal in it and it looks like improvement.

I feel, Logo 1 aka "gearhands" best potrays Kubuntu.

Just my two cents :)

I think I also have to go with Gearhands...

(although I'm not a Kubuntu user, so my vote doesn't really count.) :P

Great stuff! I actually really like Power Gears... but if I had to pick one it would be Gear Hands simply because it's keeping some of the "human" aspect of Canonicals philosophy =) I mean you can distinguish that it's people holding hands, which I think is an important element. It looks very kool but not too kool hearted if you know what I mean... Looking forward to see this in Karmic! :guitar:

ps. I had to register here on the forum to give you creds hehe

Again, thanks!

The feedback has been very encouraging!

I submitted the logos to the KDE development group with little response (yet). I don't know if a logo change would be considered by the Kubuntu team, and if these would ever become candidates.

I also don't know what channel of communication best fists these types of things.

I'm open to suggestions!
