ethernet connection inspiron 1520

I have an inspiron 1520 running Jaunty.
the ethernet connection every now and then is lost.
can someone help me finding the problem andmaybe solve it?

can you connect wireless? installing updates may help.
i also have this laptop, but i don't remember how did i solve it.

yes the wireless is working fine and jaunty is up to date.
